What is Greeklish?
Greeklish is a portmanteau of the words Greek and English and it is used to show the writting of Greek words and phrases with Latin alphabet. Greeklish are also known as Grenglish, Latinoellinika/Λατινοελληνικά or ASCII Greek. At the early days of the Internet, where Unicode encoding wasn't introduced yet, many web sites and applications were created with Greeklish. After the UTF-8 and UTF-16 encodings were adopted by everyone, this is no longer the case, but this doesn't mean that Greeklish have totally dissapeared. On the contrary, more than 30% of Greek searches on Google are made with Greeklish and almost all Greek programmers use them in their applications when writting code. Moreover, some Internet Service Providers in Greece use both Greek and Greeklish in their emails, in order to make sure that the recipient will understand the message, even if the encodings are not set up properly on his computer.Read more about Greeklish in Wikipedia
